P-1 VisasThe P-1 visa is for people who perform as athletes, individually or as part of a group or team that is internationally recognized or a person who performs with or is essential to an entertainment group that has been recognized internationally as being outstanding in the discipline for a sustained period of time.
If the individual is a performer and part of a group, she must show that she has had a sustained and substantial relationship with the group over a period of at least one year. P-1 visas are available to certain minor leaguers, amateurs or professionals. Internationally recognized is defined as "a high level of achievement . . . evidenced by a degree of skill and recognition substantially above that ordinarily encountered, to the extent such achievement is renowned, leading or well-known in more than one country.
