Coto de Caza is a guard-gated private community in Orange County, California. The population was 13,057 at the 2000 census. Coto de Caza is an unincorporated area and gated suburban planned community of about 4,000 homes. It is one of Orange County's oldest and most expensive master planned communities. The equestrian center was the site of the 1984 Olympic trials. The term "Coto de Caza" is derived from the Portuguese phrase "Preserve of the Hunt" or "hunting preserve" which implies that the reserve is private.
